R.I.P Alexander Mqueen +

McQueen's death was announced on the afternoon of 11 February 2010. He was found dead that morning in his wardrobe by his housekeeper at his home on Green Street, London W1. Paramedics were called and they pronounced him dead at the scene.

McQueen died days before London Fashion Week, though he was not scheduled to show and nine days after the death of his mother. McQueen left a note, the contents of which have not been revealed. The Metropolitan Police stated that the death was not suspicious, but did not confirm that the death was a suicide. On 17 February 2010, Westminster Coroner's Court was told that a post-mortem examination found that McQueen's death was due to asphyxiation and hanging. The inquest has been adjourned until 28 April 2010.

The big names of the fashion world turned out yesterday to pay their respects to the late designer Alexander McQueen at an intimate service in Knightsbridge.

Supermodels Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell as well as fellow designer Stella McCartney arrived to say their farewells together with McQueen's grieving relatives.

Both Moss and Campbell opted for outfits designed by the tragic McQueen as a reminder of what the fashion world has lost – Kate in a black dress with short fur coat and Naomi sporting an elegant McQueen dress with tailored jacket.

And several members of his family chose to wear the tartan that he made famous in 2006 as part of the Highland Rape catwalk show.

But everywhere there were reminders of the legacy he left to the high fashion world.

The 40-year-old fashion designer was found dead at his London home two weeks ago.

A larger memorial service is expected later this year, to allow McQueen's supporters to honour his memory.
